How much does a book trailer cost?

Updated · 2 min read ·

Short answer

A 2026 guide puts book trailers from about $100 for a slideshow to $10,000 or more for live action: $200–$1,500 for moving text and $500–$5,000 for 2D animation. Length, the number of sizes, animation or footage and the music licence decide where yours lands.

What it costs with me, Jooneyd: My short teasers (3 vertical videos) start at $399, and a 30–45 second trailer, wide and vertical with licensed music, is $699. A launch film set (trailer, 3 teasers and an animated cover) is $1,099.

Published price ranges

There is no neutral survey of trailer prices. These ranges come from 2026 guides, not from market averages.

  • Slideshow (still images, text and music): $100–$800.
  • Kinetic typography (moving text): $200–$1,500, with two to four weeks' turnaround.
  • 2D animation: $500–$5,000. 3D animation often starts at $3,000.
  • Live action: $1,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • UK (in pounds): a full trailer at £300–£1,500, and a freelance editor at £50–£200 per short video.

What drives the price

  • Length: Amazon's Sponsored Brands video ads accept 6 to 45 seconds and recommend 20 seconds or less. A 30–45 second cut also works in social feeds.
  • Sizes: every extra shape is another edit. Amazon's video ads take 16:9 only, while Reels and TikTok are vertical 9:16.
  • Footage or animation: stills and moving text cost the least, animation and filmed scenes the most.
  • Music licence: the track must be cleared for commercial use. TikTok's and Instagram's built-in music libraries are for personal posts, not for promoting a product.
  • Extras: short teasers for the weeks before launch, or an animated cover for ads.

Is it worth the money?

A trailer earns its cost when you reuse it in ads and posts, not when you post it once at launch. Compare quotes on what you get: length, sizes and the music licence, not the headline price.

Common mistake

Using a track from TikTok's or Instagram's built-in library in a trailer that runs as an ad.
